Ostoja Kozubowska

Ostoja Kozubowska is a Polish Special Area of Conservation (Specjalny Obszar Ochrony Siedlisk) within the Natura 2000 ecological network, designated to safeguard natural habitat types over the long term. It lies in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship in south-central Poland and is centered on the Chroberskie Forest landscape near the town of Pińczów. The site covers approximately 4,181 hectares of varied terrain that combine dry calcareous grasslands, thermophilous oak woodland, riparian forests, juniper heaths, and traditionally managed meadows. The protected area is notable for the diversity of habitat types it preserves within a relatively compact territory. It includes some of the rarer and more ecologically distinctive environments found in the Polish lowlands, such as subcontinental peri-Pannonic scrub, xerothermic grasslands, and oak-ash-elm floodplain forests. Together these habitats represent a mosaic that supports both specialist plant communities and the wider regional biodiversity of the Nida basin watershed. Ostoja Kozubowska is significant at both regional and European levels, since its designation under the EU Habitats Directive commits Poland to maintaining favorable conservation status for the habitat types listed for the site. The area contributes to the broader network of protected landscapes in the Świętokrzyskie region and serves as an important component of Poland's Natura 2000 framework.
