Desert Camp Conservation Park

Desert Camp Conservation Park is a small protected area in the Australian state of South Australia, located in the Limestone Coast region near the town of Keith. It sits in the gazetted locality of Marcollat along Rowney Road, also known as the Kingston to Keith road, occupying land within the Hundred of Marcollat. Despite its name, the conservation park does not protect arid desert landscapes; instead it preserves characteristic vegetation of the interdunal plains of the Angle Rock Environmental Association, including open pink gum woodland over a heath understorey. The reserve was first gazetted in 1967 under the National Parks Act 1966 and later reorganized into a conservation park under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. It is classified as an IUCN Category III protected area and was listed on the former Register of the National Estate in 1980. Visitor use has historically been limited, with bird observers and field naturalists forming the principal interest groups. At roughly 51 hectares, the park is modest in size but ecologically focused, conserving sandy duplex soils, low dune ridges, and isolated granite outcrops along with the native plant communities they support.
