Łabowa

Łabowa is a Special Area of Conservation in the Natura 2000 network, located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship (Małopolskie) in southern Poland. It lies within the broader Południowomałopolski Obszar Chronionego Krajobrazu, the Southern Lesser Poland Protected Landscape Area, and covers roughly 3,304 hectares of forested terrain. The site was designated primarily to secure long-term habitat for the lesser horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros), a European bat species of serious conservation concern. Beyond this focal species, the area protects a range of habitat types characteristic of the Carpathian foothills, including streamside vegetation, beech woodlands, and riparian forests. As one of many supporting sites in the Natura 2000 network, Łabowa contributes to the broader European effort to maintain connected, high-quality natural habitats across the continent. Its combination of mature woodland and freshwater influenced vegetation gives it ecological value both for bat populations and for the wider forest and stream ecosystem of the region.
