Ostoje Nietoperzy Powiatu Gorlickiego

Ostoje Nietoperzy Powiatu Gorlickiego is a Special Area of Conservation within the European Natura 2000 network, located in Gorlice County in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship of southeastern Poland. Designated under the site code PLH120094, the area covers roughly 2,825 hectares arranged as twelve interconnected enclaves across the Carpathian foothills. The site was established to secure long-term natural habitats and stable populations for several threatened animal species, with a particular emphasis on cave-dwelling and forest-roosting bats. In addition to its chiropteran focus, the conservatory designation extends to rare amphibians, a saproxylic beetle of European concern, and Carpathian endemic newts, reflecting the area's importance for both aquatic and woodland fauna. Beyond its specific species targets, the area safeguards representative stands of forest habitat types central to Central European woodland conservation, including fertile beech forests and mixed slope forests dominated by sycamore maple and small-leaved lime. Together, these habitat and species protections make the site a regionally significant component of Poland's Natura 2000 framework.
