Réserve naturelle régionale de la zone humide du moulin de Velving et Téterchen

The Réserve naturelle régionale de la zone humide du moulin de Velving et Téterchen is a small regional nature reserve in the department of Moselle, in the Grand Est region of northeastern France. It lies in the historic Lorraine region, within the rolling countryside of the Pays de Nied, and stretches across the communes of Téterchen and Velving, roughly ten kilometers northeast of Boulay-Moselle. The reserve covers around 92 hectares of contiguous wetland habitat set along the Bruchbach stream and the surrounding floodplain. Its main purpose is to protect a coherent block of humid habitats that have become rare in the Moselle countryside, including calcareous marshland, reedbeds, wet meadows, and a relict calcareous grassland on the higher ground. The site has been recognized at a regional level for its ecological value and forms part of France's broader network of regional nature reserves (réserves naturelles régionales), which focus on conserving representative examples of local natural heritage. Although modest in size, the reserve has a meaningful diversity of wildlife, supporting breeding birds of wetland and meadow habitats, rare orchid species, and a notable population of dragonflies. Its creation reflects a regional effort to halt the gradual loss of wet habitats that accelerated during the twentieth century as agricultural use withdrew from the most difficult-to-farm land.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
