Tved Kær

Tved Kær is a tiny protected coastal habitat area in eastern Jutland, Denmark. Officially designated as Natura 2000 site number 50 and classified as the EU habitat area H46, it covers only about 6 hectares near the village of Tved on southern Djursland, in the Mols area of Syddjurs Kommune, Region Midtjylland. Roughly four of those hectares fall under Tved Kirke (Tved Church). The site sits at the edge of Knebel Vig, a bay on the Kattegat coastline, and combines an old coastal cliff with an area of raised former seabed that has emerged from the sea since the last ice age. Across this small landscape of wet meadow, spring-fed seepage zones, and calcareous grassland, the area is managed primarily to protect the rare Danish orchid Mygblomst, along with other wetland and dry-grassland species typical of lime-rich soils in eastern Jutland. Although modest in size, Tved Kær represents a concentrated example of the calcareous, spring-influenced coastal habitats that characterize parts of the Mols peninsula, sitting alongside the broader Mols Bjerge landscape to the north.
