Uhliska

Uhliska is a small protected natural area near the village of Doubravy in the Zlín district of the Zlín Region in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. The site lies in the rolling terrain of Moravia at roughly 330 to 350 meters above sea level and covers about 14 hectares along the valley of the Černý potok stream. Its protected status was originally established as a natural monument in 1991, and the area was later reclassified as a nature reserve through Regulation No. 3/2019 of the Zlín Region. The reserve protects a mosaic of valuable habitats typical of small Moravian stream valleys. Its core conservation interest lies in species rich Cirsium meadows, broad leaved dry grasslands, and ash alder gallery forest along the stream course. These habitats support several rare and specially protected plant and animal species, including two butterflies of European importance: the Maculine teleius and the Maculine nausithous, both associated with the wet meadows that the reserve is designed to safeguard. Although modest in size, Uhliska illustrates the strong link between traditional meadow management and butterfly conservation in the Czech countryside. The site is administered by the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic, which oversees its habitat management and monitoring as part of the country's broader network of small protected natural areas.
