Mae Ping National Park

Mae Ping National Park occupies a significant position in Thailand's protected area network as a mountainous park in the country's north. The park's terrain consists primarily of fold mountains running in a north-south orientation, creating a landscape of parallel ridges and intervening valleys. Don Huai Lao, at 1,334 meters, stands as the park's highest point, while the western boundary follows the course of the Mae Ping River, a major waterway that drains much of northern Thailand. The park's ecological diversity stems from its elevation range and the interaction between mountainous topography and the river system. Smaller creeks and streams originate in the highlands, flowing westward to join the Mae Ping River, and these watercourses have carved deep valleys that add to the park's topographical complexity. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation manages the park, which received approximately 35,400 visitors in 2024, indicating its role as a destination for both conservation and recreation within the northern Thai highlands.
