Battweiler Höhe

Battweiler Höhe is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in the Südwestpfalz district of Rhineland-Palatinate, southwestern Germany. It sits on a low ridge between the village of Battweiler and Niederhausen, in the Verbandsgemeinde Zweibrücken-Land, and protects a strip of semi-dry grassland roughly 1.3 kilometers long and around 250 meters wide. The reserve was designated in 2003 to preserve and develop calcareous grassland (Kalkmagerrasen) and extensively managed meadows, together with the typical shrubs, hedges, and forest-edge habitats associated with them. It forms part of a wider network of calcareous grassland sites across the Zweibrücken hill country, an area that is of particular interest because such grass- and herb-rich habitats have become rare across much of central Europe. The park is fundamentally a habitat-protection site rather than a wilderness or recreation area. Its significance lies in the recovery and maintenance of plant-rich dry grassland, the species they support, and the role of grazing and manual mowing in keeping these open landscapes intact.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
