A protected wetland forest in Karlsruhe's Kinzig-Murg lowland corridor

Füllbruch-Vokkenau

Füllbruch-Vokkenau is a protected landscape area in the city of Karlsruhe, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It lies in the eastern part of the city, near the boundary with Stutensee, and is part of the broader Bruchwald (floodplain forest) system that runs through the old Kinzig-Murg lowland channel of the Upper Rhine Plain. The landscape protection area is defined by a mix of wet woodland and traditional open countryside. Alder and ash floodplain forests, hornbeam stands, meadows, orchard meadows (Streuobstwiesen), small fields, and allotment-style gardens all meet within a single, comparatively compact mosaic. Multiple natural and artificially created watercourses, including the Pfinz and the Pfinz-Entlastungskanal, weave through the area and give it a strong wetland character. Beyond its ecological value, the area also serves an important hydraulic purpose: the Retentionsraum Oberfüllbruch spans much of the Füllbruch and is designed to retain floodwaters of the Pfinz. The protected-area designation dates from 9 January 1988, and the site is administered by the city of Karlsruhe.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
