Kranzbach und Kranzbruchvenn

Kranzbach und Kranzbruchvenn is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in the western outskirts of Simmerath, in the Städteregion Aachen of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Covering roughly 32.8 hectares, it protects the upper and middle course of the Kranzbach, a tributary of the Kall river, together with surrounding fen, bog, and heath landscapes that connect ecologically with the larger Kranzbruch and the Hohes Venn highland further south. The reserve is valued for its mosaic of wet and dry habitats: swamps and reedbeds, bog formations, dwarf-shrub heaths, gorse and juniper heaths, mat-grass grasslands, wet and moist meadows, near-natural unbuilt stream channels, and alder, willow, and birch swamp forests. These habitats support red-listed plant species such as marsh gentian and bog asphodel, and provide living space for the Eurasian beaver, greater mouse-eared and pond bats, the European kingfisher, and the whinchat. Remnants of the Westwall dragon's teeth fortifications also cross the area, and a narrow hiking trail runs alongside them. The reserve was designated in 2002 as part of the Simmerath landscape plan and is also partially integrated into the larger Natura 2000 site of Kalltal und Nebentäler, giving it both regional and European conservation significance.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
