Botič-Milíčov Nature Park

Botič-Milíčov is a designated nature park located on the southeastern outskirts of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. Established in 1984, it is one of the oldest nature parks in the city, created to safeguard River Valley floodplain habitats, meandering streams, and surviving deciduous woodland despite the heavy urbanization that surrounds it. The park follows the valley of the Pitkovický stream and the Botič river down to the Hostivař reservoir, and also encompasses the Milíčov forest and its chain of ponds on the edge of the large Jižní Město housing estate. The area is valued as a remarkable green refuge where natural floodplain dynamics still shape the land. Periodic flooding of the meadows beside the streams is a defining ecological process, supporting wet meadows, alluvial forests, and a network of small ponds. Two specially protected natural monuments lie within the park: Pitkovická stráň, a natural rocky outcrop, and Milíčovský les a rybníky, a complex of forest and ponds. Beyond its ecological importance, the park carries a rich historical imprint. It contains archaeological traces of Neolithic settlement, the remains of historic watermills from the 17th century, old mill races, and protected rural architecture including manor farms and small chapels. Even as extensive suburban development has steadily narrowed the surrounding landscape, Botič-Milíčov remains a meaningful example of a preserved cultural-natural landscape within a major European city.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
