Rohrbachtobel im Wirlinger Forst

Rohrbachtobel im Wirlinger Forst is a small nature reserve in the Allgäu region of Bavaria, Germany, designated under decree on 28 December 1959. Covering roughly 14 hectares, it lies within the municipalities of Buchenberg and Waltenhofen in the Oberallgäu district, in the natural area known as the Iller foothills. The reserve protects a steep gorge, or tobel, cut deeply into layers of the Lower Freshwater Molasse. Within this sheltered valley, near-natural forest vegetation has survived on the steep slopes, including communities such as alder-ash creek forest, goatsbeard alder-ash forest, and forms of the woodruff-fir-beech forest. The result is a compact but ecologically rich site, valued for its combination of dramatic geomorphology and intact forest habitat. Although small in size, the reserve is notable for its concentration of rare and protected species. It supports stands of European yew, several wild orchid species, and woodland flora of conservation interest, along with characteristic fauna such as the alpine salamander, black woodpecker, and Eurasian kingfisher along the stream corridor.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
