Rybník Motovidlo

Rybník Motovidlo is a small protected pond in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, located just south of the village of Čejkovice in the České Budějovice district. Declared a natural monument (přírodní památka) on 24 December 2022 by the South Bohemian Regional Authority, it covers 11.6 hectares and lies in the flat České Budějovice Basin at about 389 to 390 meters above sea level. The site forms part of a larger network of more than twenty fishponds typical of the South Bohemian landscape. Its ecological importance lies especially in its aquatic vegetation and amphibian fauna. The pond is one of the few Czech sites where the critically endangered yellow water-lily relative plavín štítnatý still survives, and it is also home to a remarkable assemblage of frogs, toads, newts, and fire-bellied toads. The protected area is integrated into the broader Českobudějovické rybníky Bird Protection Area (ptačí oblast), reflecting its role not only for aquatic plants and amphibians but also for the wider wetland bird community of one of the most famous pond landscapes in Central Europe.
