Established on 4 September 1953 by ordinance of the Landratsamt Calw, the protected area covers a wooded ridge between the village of Bernbach and the spa town of Bad Herrenalb in the Landkreis Calw. The landscape is dominated by extensive forest across hilltops and ridges, including the Tannschachberg, Rennberg, and the Pfahlwald. The protected area belongs to the natural region of Grindenschwarzwald und Enzhöhen and lies entirely within the Naturpark Schwarzwald Mitte/Nord. Although it is a relatively modest local protection area, it forms part of a much larger interconnected network of protected landscapes and habitats in the northern Black Forest, linking to neighboring reserves as well as to a designated FFH (Flora-Fauna-Habitat) area and a larger bird protection zone.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
