Tobeltal

Tobeltal is a small landscape protection area on the Swabian Alb in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It lies southwest of the municipality of Zwiefalten in the district of Reutlingen and follows the southwest to northeast course of the Tobelbach stream. The protected area covers roughly 31 hectares of a deeply incised Jurassic rock valley, where forested slopes, meadow patches in the floodplain, and a spring-fed wetland create a compact mosaic of habitats. Although modest in size, the area is notable within the regional network of protected landscapes on the Mittlere Flächenalb, where it sits inside a larger Natura 2000 site, a bird protection area, and the care zone of the Schwäbische Alb Biosphere Reserve. The valley's defining character comes from its geology. The Tobelbach has cut sharply into the Jurassic limestone bedrock, producing a gorge-like cross-section with exposed rock formations along the slopes. Much of the valley is cloaked in forest, including sections that qualify as ravine forest, while meadows remain in the broader valley floor near the Lerchenhalde and the Wanne area. In the northeastern part of the protected area, a wet biotope fed by the Kesselbach spring adds a distinctive hydrological element to the landscape. Beyond its immediate scenic value, Tobeltal represents a typical example of the smaller valley landscapes that the regional conservation system aims to safeguard. It connects directly to the neighboring Riedlinger Alb protection area and contributes to broader European-level habitat and bird conservation objectives through its overlap with the Glastal, Großer Buchwald und Tautschbuch FFH site and the Täler der Mittleren Flächenalb bird protection area.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
