Vidoule

Vidoule is a protected natural monument located in the northwestern corner of Prague, in the city district of Jinonice, between the neighborhoods of Košíře, Butovice, and the large Stodůlky housing estate. It rises to about 372 meters above sea level and takes the form of a flat-topped hill, or table mountain, set within the geologically diverse terrain of the Prague Plateau. The site protects three bands of slope along the southern, southeastern, and northern sides of the hill, covering roughly 8.65 hectares. Its chief interest lies in its exposed Cretaceous rock layers, especially sandstones capped with marlstones and opukas, which create an unusual geological profile within an otherwise urbanized part of the Czech capital. The protected area is also recognized for its warm-grassland flora and its role as a refuge for small animals, including rare steppe beetles and breeding songbirds. Vidoule is significant on a regional level because it is one of the few remaining undeveloped plateaus within Prague's city limits. Surrounded by roads, a school complex, a water-supply facility, former air-defense bunkers, and ever-expanding residential development, it provides an unusual pocket of semi-natural character and geological heritage in a metropolitan setting.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
