Vizerka

Vizerka is a small natural monument located on the northern slope of the Šárecké údolí (Šárka Valley), within the Šárka-Lysolaje natural park on the territory of Prague, in the Dejvice district wedged between Nebušice and Vokovice. The protected area covers only about three hectares of rocky and shrubby slopes that rise above the former Vizerka homestead, and it is valued primarily as a refuge for thermophilic vegetation and warm-loving fauna in an otherwise urban setting. The heart of the site lies in two outcrops of Proterozoic shale bedrock, where shallow soils support xerothermic grasslands and rocky-steppe shrubs. These habitats host characteristic species such as Pulsatilla pratensis (meadow pasqueflower) and the thermophilic spider Eresus kollari, both of which influenced the decision to grant the area formal protection. Although the site is tiny, its ecological character is unusually distinct for a protected area inside a capital city. It functions as a fragment of warm, open, sun-exposed habitat that has been gradually encroached upon by woody species, and ongoing management focuses on preserving this open steppe-like landscape for the future.
