Weilheim an der Teck Landscape Protection Area

Weilheim an der Teck auf Gemarkungen Weilheim und Hepsisau is a designated landscape protection area (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) in the district of Esslingen, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The area lies mostly to the south and east of the town of Weilheim an der Teck and almost completely encompasses the district of Hepsisau, forming a transitional belt between the open landscapes of the Alb foreland and the dramatic steep rise of the Swabian Alb. The protected area covers approximately 1,407 hectares today, reduced from an originally designated extent of 1,620 hectares as nature protection areas were carved out within its boundaries. It belongs to the natural regions of the Mittlere Kuppenalb and the Mittleres Albvorland, bridging two major landscape units of southern Germany: the Schwäbische Alb and the Schwäbisches Keuper-Lias-Land. The principal purpose of the protection is to preserve the diversity, character, and beauty of a richly structured, partly forested hill zone that lies between the Alb foreland and the steep escarpment, including the volcanically formed hills and their important bird populations. Its proximity to the densely populated Stuttgart conurbation also gives the area significance as a local ecological compensation zone and recreational landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
