Wollerscheider Venn

Wollerscheider Venn is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located in the municipality of Simmerath within the Städteregion Aachen. It lies in the geographic context of the Roetgen/Lammersdorf exclave, west of Lammersdorf and just north of the B399 federal road, which also marks the border with Belgium. The reserve contains a typical, though partly degraded, example of a Venn landscape, the open peatland and heath terrain that characterizes the high plateau extending across this border region of the Eifel and the Hohes Venn. It protects extensive raised bog communities (Hochmoorgesellschaften) along with many of the characteristic habitat types associated with that landscape, making it ecologically tied to the broader Hohes Venn system. Although modest in size, the protected area is an important refuge for bog-specialist plants, dragonflies, butterflies, and ground-nesting birds. It sits within the wider Natura 2000 framework and contributes to the conservation of fragmented peatland habitats that have been heavily modified across the region.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
