Albuchwiesen

Albuchwiesen is a small protected nature area in the eastern part of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, situated in the Albuch and Härtsfeld natural region of the Swabian Alb. Designated under the European Union Habitats Directive (FFH), it covers 51.1 hectares distributed across nine separate parcels in four municipalities within three counties. Despite its modest size, the area is ecologically significant because it preserves a rare mosaic of former litter meadows, Hülben (traditional small ponds carved into clay layers), acidic mat-grass swards, small-sedge wet meadows, still waters with transitional mires, and extensively used grassland. These habitats represent relics of once widespread traditional land use on the Ostalb, including former woodland pastures and dry valley hollows. Albuchwiesen is notable for being the smallest FFH site in Baden-Württemberg, yet it protects a disproportionately rich concentration of wetland and grassland habitat types. Roughly 75 percent of the site is moist and mesophilic grassland, while the remainder includes small amounts of woodland, heath, still water, mire and mire-edge vegetation, making it an important refuge for the remaining wetland biodiversity of the Ostalb outside the Brenz valley.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
