Bach Ma National Park represents one of central Vietnam's most ecologically significant protected areas, encompassing 220 square kilometers of mountainous terrain within the Annamite Mountains. The park's strategic position at the transition between northern and southern Vietnamese biogeographical zones, combined with its dramatic elevation range from coastal lowlands to peaks exceeding 1,400 meters, has produced an extraordinary diversity of habitats within a relatively compact area. The region's extreme wetness, making it one of the wettest places in Vietnam, supports lush forest growth and sustains year-round water availability across the park's numerous streams and waterfalls. The park's three-zone management structure allows for strict protection of core areas while enabling sustainable use and buffer zone development around the protected core. Access to the park is available by foot, moped, or with park guide vehicles, allowing visitors to explore the mountain trails and reach scenic viewpoints. The park's ecological significance extends beyond its borders, with 2004 proposals to expand the protected area to create a ecological corridor connecting the Laos border to the sea.
