Breitborner Floß

Breitborner Floß is a nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) located in the Landkreis Saarlouis in the German state of Saarland. The protected area covers 39 hectares across several parcels of land between the municipality of Bous in the southwest and the Schwalbach districts of Derlen in the northeast and Griesborn in the northwest. The reserve conserves the biotope complexes of Breitborner Floß and Bommersbach, which together support several threatened and ecologically valuable habitat types in central Europe. These range from species-rich mat-grass grasslands on silicate soils to alluvial forests, tall-herb wet thickets, and lowland hay meadows. Established on 10 July 2015, Breitborner Floß also forms part of the European Natura 2000 network as a Flora-Fauna-Habitat (FFH) site, emphasizing the area's value at both regional and continental scales for habitat and species protection.
