Summer hiking is straightforward along the surrounding forest paths and farm roads.
In winter, the elevation of Ernstberg often allows for cross-country skiing on prepared trails, sledding on dedicated slopes, and use of the local ski rental hut, conditions that are not guaranteed every year but recur frequently enough to make the mountain a recognized winter sports venue in the Vulkaneifel. Shoulder seasons are quieter and well suited to appreciating the volcanic landforms without snow cover.
