Łąki koło Kasiny Wielkiej

Łąki koło Kasiny Wielkiej is a small, specialized habitat protection site in the Beskid Wyspowy range of southern Poland. Designated under the Natura 2000 network, it takes the form of a Site of Community Importance dedicated to conserving meadow habitats shaped by centuries of traditional farming. Although its total area is modest, the site captures a meaningful slice of the semi-natural grassland heritage that still survives in the foothills of the Carpathians. The protected area consists of three separate, lowland-to-submontane meadow complexes situated near the village of Kasina Wielka, within the gmina of Mszana Dolna in the Małopolskie voivodeship. Most of the site falls inside the broader South Małopolska Protected Landscape Area, which provides an additional layer of regional landscape protection around the meadows. Its ecological importance rests on the preservation of two Annex I habitat types from the EU Habitats Directive: tufted hair-grass dominated wet meadows and extensively managed fresh lowland and mountain hay meadows. These habitats support characteristic plants and invertebrates that depend on the continuation of low-intensity, traditional mowing and grazing regimes.
