Mayengewann von Lämmerspiel

Mayengewann von Lämmerspiel is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in the state of Hesse, Germany, located in the Offenbach district on the eastern outskirts of the village of Lämmerspiel, part of the town of Mühlheim am Main. The roughly 6.69-hectare site combines a species-rich oak woodland with adjacent seasonally moist meadows, forming a compact mosaic of woodland, grassland, and damp habitat that stands apart from the surrounding agricultural and urban landscape. The reserve has been protected since 1985 under the German nature conservation ordinance system, administered by the lower nature conservation authority of the Offenbach district. It is also designated as a Fauna-Flora-Habitat (FFH) site and has been part of the European Natura 2000 network since 2000, which gives it recognition beyond its regional boundaries. Ecologically, the reserve is best known for its traditional orchid-rich meadow, where small populations of green-winged orchid and broad-leaved marsh orchid still occur. The combination of old oak forest and extensively managed wet grassland supports a range of rare plant species and creates one of the more botanically distinctive small protected sites in the eastern Rhine-Main region.
