Neidlinger Tal

Neidlinger Tal is a designated protected landscape in the district of Esslingen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It covers the rural countryside surrounding the village of Neidlingen, set against the western escarpment of the Swabian Alb and overlooked by the Limburg hill. The protected area preserves a traditional mixed landscape of woodland and agricultural land at the transition between the Swabian Alb uplands and the rolling Alb foreland. The protected landscape was formally established by ordinance of the Landratsamt Esslingen on 18 December 1975 and is recorded under the ID 1.16.016. With an area of roughly 1,097 hectares, it encompasses the entire municipal area of Neidlingen outside the built-up settlement and excludes a buffer strip along the L1200 state road. The reserve is embedded within a network of neighbouring protected landscapes in Esslingen and the adjacent Göppingen district. Neidlinger Tal lies within two natural regions, the Mittlere Kuppenalb of the Swabian Alb and the Mittleres Albvorland. The surrounding landscape also belongs to the large Mittlere Schwäbische Alb bird protection area, with parts of the valley included in the Neidlinger Alb Natura 2000 habitat site.
