Periochi Skoulli

Periochi Skoulli is a small protected natural area in Cyprus, classified under the European Natura 2000 network as both a Site of Community Importance and a Special Protection Area for birds. The site lies in the western part of the island, near the village of Skoulli in the Paphos region, and covers roughly 100 hectares of entirely terrestrial habitat. Its conservation value rests on a striking concentration of Mediterranean habitat types packed into a relatively compact area, including riparian galleries, seasonal rivers, wet meadows, and several rare forest types. The protected zone belongs to the Mediterranean ecoregion and supports an unusually diverse community of breeding and migratory birds. It was first designated as a bird protection area in December 2002, was recognized as a Site of Community Importance in May 2004, and was formally confirmed as a Special Area of Conservation in September 2015. Because of this layered protection, Periochi Skoulli functions less as a tourist destination and more as a quiet but ecologically important refuge within the broader Natura 2000 network of Cyprus.
