Why Schwarzhölzl stands out
Schwarzhölzl is best known as one of the last surviving wet woodland fragments of the Dachauer Moos, a vast peatland that once stretched north of Munich and was progressively drained from the early 19th century onward. Visits in winter are possible but less rewarding for active wildlife observation, given the area's dependence on damp habitats and warm-season species activity.
