The Südteil des Nohfeldener Rhyolith-Massivs is a small nature reserve in the Saarland, Germany, established in 2017 in the Landkreis St. Wendel. Covering roughly 73 hectares, it occupies a curved, sickle-shaped stretch of forested and open terrain north of the municipality of Oberthal, lying between two named summits of the Nohfeldener rhyolite massif: the Losenberg and the Leißberg. It was created as an extension of the older Oberthaler Bruch reserve, drawing both habitat-protection significance and local controversy at the time of its designation. The reserve is notable for preserving habitat types that have become rare across the region, particularly species-rich montane mat-grass grasslands on silicate soils and bog woodlands, along with habitat for invertebrates, freshwater fauna such as the Groppe, and bryophyte species including the green broom moss. The combination of acidic rocky uplands, wet woodland, and traditional grassland gives the area a layered ecological character that supports a community typical of the older rhyolite highlands of the Saarland.
