Telašćica Nature Park protects one of Croatia's most visually striking coastal landscapes, centered on a deep natural inlet that penetrates the southeastern edge of Dugi Otok island. The park's defining characteristic is the spectacular limestone cliff system that lines the bay, with these vertical rock faces rising to 161 meters above sea level and continuing underwater to depths of 90 meters, creating one of the most dramatic cliff-and-sea interfaces in the Mediterranean. The bay itself stretches approximately 10 kilometers inland, varying dramatically in width from a narrow 160 meters near its entrance to 1,800 meters in its broader sections. Geologically, the area showcases classic Karst topography with its combination of bare rock surfaces, subterranean water connections, and the unusual saltwater lake that has formed through underground sea channels. The park contains six islets within its boundaries—Korotan, Galijola, Gozdenjak, Farfarikulac, Gornji Školj, and Donji Školj—each contributing to the archipelago character of the protected area. Surrounding these interior islands, an additional 13 islands and islets create a complex coastal mosaic that defines the broader marine setting. Vegetation patterns within the park follow a clear northeastern-to-southwestern gradient, with the wind-exposed northeastern shores remaining largely bare while the more sheltered southwestern slopes support dense Mediterranean woodland of pine, olive, and fig trees.
