Ur-Brenztal Landscape Protection Area

Ur-Brenztal is a small protected landscape area (Landschaftsschutzgebiet) in the Landkreis Heidenheim of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. It lies on the eastern Swabian Alb, in the natural region known as Albuch und Härtsfeld, and covers a roughly 69 hectare stretch of wetland valley between the town of Oberkochen to the north and the edge of Königsbronn to the south. The protected area follows the Seegartenhofgraben and the upper Ziegelbach, the two streams that together form the longest and most northerly headwater branch of the Brenz river. Open meadows and pastures in this unusually broad and flat valley floor are the main feature under protection, supporting a rich community of meadow birds, wading visitors, and threatened bat species. Beyond its ecological role, Ur-Brenztal also serves as a green corridor between the high plateaus of the Albuch to the west and the Härtsfeld to the east, interrupting the otherwise nearly continuous settlement belt that runs from Aalen through to Giengen an der Brenz.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
