Vlkoš, statek

Vlkoš – statek is a small natural monument in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic, located in the village of Kanovsko, a part of the municipality of Vlkoš in the Přerov district. The protected area consists of a single farmhouse, house number 25, and was designated specifically to safeguard the attic as a summer roosting site for Geoffroy's bat (Myotis emarginatus). The site covers only about 0.024 hectares, yet it carries disproportionate ecological significance because of the bat colony it shelters. Before the area received formal protection, the colony numbered roughly 80 to 130 individuals, making the attic one of the more important roosting locations for the species in the region. The surrounding landscape of the Hornomoravský úval has been heavily shaped by agriculture, and the protected site overlaps with a Site of Community Importance under the European Natura 2000 network. The monument illustrates how very small, building-based habitats can hold substantial conservation value, particularly for bat species that depend on traditional rural structures for breeding and summer shelter. Its designation in 2013 formalized ongoing monitoring and protection efforts that had begun years earlier.
