Źródliska Wisłoki

Źródliska Wisłoki is a small but ecologically distinctive protected natural area in the Low Beskids of southern Poland. It sits within the Małopolske (Lesser Poland) region, on the territory of the commune of Sękowa near the village of Radocyna, and lies inside the broader South Małopolska Protected Landscape Area. The site centers on the spring-head zone of the Wisłoka river, where base-rich peatlands of the spring-mire type (locally known as młaki) and upland Trisetum hay meadows form the core habitats. Covering about 182 hectares, the area was designated in 2011 as a Site of Community Importance under the European Union Habitats Directive, primarily to protect the rich populations of the narrow-mouthed whorl snail (Vertigo angustior), a species listed in Annex II of the directive, alongside other protected fauna and flora. Źródliska Wisłoki is a representative example of a Polish Natura 2000 site focused on freshwater spring mires and semi-natural mountain meadows, habitats that are increasingly rare across the Carpathians. Its ecological importance extends well beyond its modest size because of the concentration of protected species and the fragility of the spring-mire environment it preserves.
