Arapaho National Recreation Area
Arapaho National Recreation Area is a United States national recreation area in north central Colorado, situated near the headwaters of the Colorado River and adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park. The area centers on a chain of reservoirs and natural lakes in the upper Colorado River valley, including Lake Granby, Shadow Mountain Lake, Willow Creek Reservoir, Monarch Lake, and Meadow Creek Reservoir, with Grand Lake forming its northern border. Collectively known as the Great Lakes of Colorado, the area combines reservoir-based recreation with the surrounding alpine and subalpine scenery of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests. Its proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park makes it a significant gateway area for water-based recreation and Continental Divide trail access on the western slope of the Colorado Rockies.
