Bagno Wizna II Nature Reserve

Bagno Wizna II is a small peatland nature reserve in northeastern Poland, located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship within the administrative area of Gmina Rutki. It lies in the Kotlina Biebrzańska, the broad lowland basin shaped by the Biebrza River system, and forms part of a wider cluster of peatland protections that also includes the nearby Bagno Wizna I reserve. The reserve was established in 1967 to protect a fragment of raised bog and its associated rare plant communities. Today it is managed under active conservation (ochrona czynna), an approach chosen because the small bog patch has proven highly sensitive to changes in its water regime and surrounding land use. Although modest in size, the reserve is regionally important as a historical example of peatland protection in the Biebrza region and as a reference point for understanding how earlier drainage works reshaped the bog flora of the area.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
