Bimberi Nature Reserve

Bimberi Nature Reserve is a protected nature reserve covering roughly 10,868 hectares in the Brindabella Range of New South Wales, in southeastern Australia. It lies about 30 kilometres southwest of Canberra, close to the border with the Australian Capital Territory, and forms part of the rugged forested high country that characterises the eastern Australian Alps. The reserve occupies a strategic landscape position between Kosciuszko National Park to the north and Namadgi National Park in the ACT, and also adjoins the smaller Brindabella National Park. Its boundary with the ACT runs along the crest of the range, and the summit of Bimberi Peak, on the reserve's edge, is the highest point in the Australian Capital Territory as well as the highest point within Bimberi itself. Although smaller and less visited than some of its neighbours, Bimberi is an ecologically important piece of the wider Australian Alps. In November 2008 it was added to the Australian National Heritage List as one of eleven component areas of the Australian Alps National Parks and Reserves, recognising its role in preserving high-country forest, subalpine habitat, and the broader connectedness of the Alps protected-area network.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
