Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park is a United States national park located in southeastern Utah near the town of Moab. The park preserves a colorful landscape eroded into numerous canyons, mesas, and buttes by the Colorado River, the Green River, and their respective tributaries. Established on September 12, 1964, when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed legislation creating the park, Canyonlands covers over 337,000 acres of high desert terrain. The park is divided into four distinct districts: Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the combined rivers area. Each district offers a different character while sharing a primitive desert atmosphere that author Edward Abbey described as "the most weird, wonderful, magical place on earth—there is nothing else like it anywhere." The convergence of the Colorado and Green Rivers at the heart of the park creates one of the most dramatic river confluences in North America.
