Channel Point Coastal Reserve

Channel Point Coastal Reserve is a protected area on the northern coast of Australia's Northern Territory, lying roughly 240 kilometres southwest of Darwin between Channel Point and the mouth of the Daly River, facing the Peron Islands. The reserve covers a compact strip of coastline and estuarine habitat that overlaps with the Anson Bay, Daly and Reynolds River Floodplains, an internationally recognized Important Bird and Biodiversity Area. The landscape combines tidal flats, coastal dunes, mangrove margins, and the freshwater influence of the Daly River system. The reserve is valued less for its size than for its ecological position at the meeting point of river outflow, tidal influence, and tropical savanna coast, supporting large numbers of waterbirds and shorebirds. Established in 2005 under the management of the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory, Channel Point Coastal Reserve functions primarily as a wildlife-focused coastal sanctuary with modest visitor infrastructure, including a boat ramp, camping area, and short access road that were completed shortly after 2006.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
