Daintree National Park

Daintree National Park protects one of Earth's most ancient and biologically diverse rainforests on the far north coast of Queensland, Australia. Located approximately 100 kilometers northwest of Cairns, the park encompasses roughly 1,200 square kilometers of tropical rainforest, mountain woodlands, and coastal landscapes that have existed continuously for over 110 million years, making it possibly the oldest surviving rainforest on the planet. The park was founded in 1981 and became part of the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics of Queensland in 1988, recognized for its outstanding universal value and exceptional biodiversity. The park is divided into two distinct sections: the popular Mossman Gorge in the south and the rugged Cape Tribulation region in the north, separated by agricultural land and the towns of Mossman and Daintree Village. In 2021, a historic agreement with the Queensland government transferred formal ownership of the park to the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people, the traditional owners of this land.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
