Dębowiec Nature Reserve

Dębowiec Nature Reserve is a forest nature reserve in central Poland, located in Gmina Żytno in Radomsko County, Łódź Voivodeship. It lies within the Niecka Włoszczowska mesoregion, a broad lowland basin in the historical borderlands of the Pilica river catchment. The reserve protects a natural fragment of deciduous woodland characterised by oak-hornbeam (grąd) forest in which large-leaved linden is unusually prominent near the edge of its range, together with ash-elm riparian forest hosting rare herbaceous plants. Although originally modest in scale at roughly 47 hectares, the reserve was expanded significantly in 2024 to reach about 206 hectares. Its main purpose is scientific and educational preservation of natural forest communities, and botanical surveys have documented around 355 plant species within the protected area. The woodland sits on land managed by Gidle Forest District (Nadleśnictwo Gidle), in the Dębowiec forest subdistrict, and is embedded in a broader network of protected landscapes, including the Piliczański Obszar Chronionego Krajobrazu and the Natura 2000 habitat site also called Las Dębowiec. The reserve's character is shaped by its position within a heavily wooded lowland region, where flat terrain and relatively poor soils favour mixed deciduous and oak-dominated stands rather than coniferous monocultures. It is a small, quiet, ecologically focused site, whose significance lies in preserving compositional and structural elements of the lowland forest that have become increasingly rare in the intensively managed agricultural and forestry landscapes of central Poland.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
