Eldrup Skov og søer og moser i Løvenholm Skov

Eldrup Skov og søer og moser i Løvenholm Skov is a Danish Natura 2000 site that sits within a much larger tract of broadleaf forest on the Djursland peninsula in central Jutland. Officially designated as EU habitat area H43, the site covers 155 hectares and combines five separate sub-areas that collectively bridge two forest complexes, Eldrup Skov in the southwest and the broader Løvenholm Skov to the east. The protected landscape is unusually diverse for an area of this size, weaving together old-growth beech forest on wet heath soils, three formerly raised-bog systems, and a distinctive brown-water, nutrient-poor lake. Roughly three quarters of the surface is wooded, while the remainder is given over to open bog, heath, fen, and lake habitats that together reflect the historic wet character of inland Djursland. Designated in part to preserve a remnant of a once-massive raised-bog system that stretched across the peninsula, the site is now managed toward restoring open bog and maintaining high-quality forest and lake habitats. It stands out as a compact but ecologically layered example of how Denmark protects small forest-and-wetland complexes within the wider Natura 2000 network.
