Furner Conservation Park

Furner Conservation Park is a small protected area in the south-east of South Australia, situated in the locality of Furner within the Hundred of Kennion. The park lies some 310 kilometres south-east of Adelaide and roughly 27 kilometres north-west of Millicent, placing it firmly within the forested lowlands and dune country of the Limestone Coast region. The park safeguards an unusually intact remnant of open forest and woodland vegetation on consolidated dunes and interdunal flats, including examples of messmate stringybark, river red gum, manna gum, pink gum, and drooping sheoak formations. Hilly sandy rises, stony parallel ridges with exposed calcarenite, and low sandy flats together give it a quietly varied topography within a relatively small footprint. Established in 1973 under the South Australian National Parks and Wildlife Act, Furner Conservation Park is managed as an IUCN Category III protected area and has long been valued by local naturalists and educators for its representation of typical south-east South Australian forest communities.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
