Großer Heuberg und Donautal

Großer Heuberg und Donautal is a large protected landscape in southern Baden-Württemberg, Germany, designated as a Fauna-Flora-Habitat (FFH) site within the European Natura 2000 network. It spans roughly 8,662 hectares across parts of three counties, the Landkreis Tuttlingen, the Zollernalbkreis and the Landkreis Sigmaringen. The area combines the upland Großer Heuberg plateau with the dramatic gorge-like valley of the Upper Danube, creating a transition between the Swabian Alb and its foreland. Its conservation significance lies in the mosaic of juniper heaths, nutrient-poor meadows, orchid-rich calcareous grasslands, steep rocky slopes and broadleaf beech forests that survive here. Because of this habitat diversity, the site hosts a wide range of protected species, from bats and the Eurasian beaver to rare orchids and mosses. It is one of the most habitat-rich Natura 2000 areas along the southwestern Swabian Alb.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
