Mahaba Island Protected Landscape and Seascape

Mahaba Island Protected Landscape and Seascape is a Philippine protected area located in the province of Surigao del Norte, in the northern Mindanao region. It encompasses the entirety of Mahaba Island together with the surrounding marine waters, creating a combined landscape and seascape reserve that protects both coastal land habitats and the adjacent sea. The park was established on December 29, 1991, through Proclamation 2152 of the Philippine government, and is further recognized under Article 5d of the NIPAS Act (Republic Act 7586) of 1992. With an area of roughly 57 square kilometers, it represents the type of integrated coastal and marine protection that has become a hallmark of the Philippine protected-area system, where islands and their surrounding seas are managed as a single ecological unit. Although the island itself is low-lying and only marginally above sea level, the reserve is ecologically significant for its mangrove communities, its interior coconut-dominated forests, and the marine waters around it. Together these features give the protected area a distinctive character within the Caraga region of the Philippines.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
