Moczydło Nature Reserve

Moczydło Nature Reserve is a small protected area in the Świętokrzyskie region of central Poland, established in 1995 to safeguard an unusual combination of industrial and natural heritage. It lies within the Chęcińsko-Kielecki Landscape Park, in the commune of Piekoszów, on a hill known both as Moczydło and as Góra Jaworzyńska, which rises to 317 meters above sea level. The reserve is classified as a partial nature reserve focused on inanimate features, and its protection covers two distinct but interconnected elements. The first is a network of small shafts, fissures, and exploratory openings that document centuries of historical lead and barite mining in the Holy Cross Mountains. The second is the surviving patches of xerothermic calcareous grassland, a rare and ecologically valuable plant community that thrives on the sunlit limestone slopes. Together, these features make Moczydło a compact but distinctive site where geology, mining history, and open dry grassland ecosystems are preserved within a single protected unit of only 16.35 hectares.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
