A Mediterranean departmental park on the French Riviera, blending wetland habitats, exotic plantings, and ancient coastal heritage

Parc de Vaugrenier

Parc de Vaugrenier is a departmental nature park located in the Alpes-Maritimes department of southeastern France, occupying roughly one hundred hectares between the communes of Villeneuve-Loubet and Antibes. Although it lies close to the Mediterranean coast, the park is separated from the sea by the former Route Nationale 98, the modern RD 6007, and the coastal railway line, giving it a calm inland character despite its Riviera setting. The park is recognized for its combination of Mediterranean flora and fauna with more exotic species from around the world, including a notable coast redwood from California. A freshwater pond at the heart of the park supports an exceptional biotope and serves as the focus for an ornithological observatory, making birdwatching one of the park's most distinctive activities. Beyond its natural value, Parc de Vaugrenier sits within a landscape shaped by deep history. The site was used by the ancient Greek settlers of Massalia as early as the seventh century BC, and later by the Romans, who left visible remains linked to the coastal road Via Julia Augusta. Today the park functions as both a protected green space and a regional heritage site on the French Riviera.
