Parc naturel régional des Causses du Quercy

The Parc naturel régional des Causses du Quercy is a Regional Nature Park in southwestern France, set in the Lot department of the Occitanie region. It encompasses the karst limestone plateaux known as the Causses du Quercy, running from the vast Causse de Gramat in the north through the smaller Causse de Saint-Chels and Causse de Limogne, and reaching southward into parts of the Quercy Blanc and the uplands of the Limargue along the eastern edge. The park's territory is deeply carved by several major river valleys. The Dordogne marks its northern boundary, while the Lot and the Célé cut broad, sheltered gorges through the limestone, creating dramatic contrasts between dry, open plateau surfaces and forested valley slopes. Beyond its scenic character, the area is recognised internationally for its geological significance, having joined the UNESCO Global Geopark network in 2017. As a Regional Nature Park, it plays a dual role: protecting and revealing a distinctive karst landscape shaped over hundreds of millions of years, while supporting rural life across more than one hundred member communes. Several zones within the park are classified under the Natura 2000 network, reinforcing its importance for biodiversity conservation alongside its cultural, agricultural, and geological heritage.
