Přírodní park Drahaň-Troja

Přírodní park Drahaň-Troja is a protected nature park on the right bank of the Vltava River in the northern parts of Prague, spanning the municipal districts of Prague 7 and Prague 8. It covers the dramatic landscape of the Trojská kotlina, where steep rocky slopes, deep V-shaped valleys, and dry steppe habitats meet the urban edge of the Czech capital. Within its roughly 579 hectares lie well-known institutions such as Prague Zoo and the Prague Botanical Garden, alongside more than twelve smaller protected sites including nature reserves and natural monuments. The park is notable for its unexpected combination of warm-loving rocky steppe ecosystems with deep periurban valleys fed by small streams. It contains some of the oldest rocks in the Prague area, Proterozoic shales and rhyolite veins shaped by ancient volcanic activity, and supports a rich community of thermophilic plants and invertebrates that are rare elsewhere in the country. Because of this ecological character, it has become one of the most visited natural areas in Prague and a key example of a periurban park under pressure from urbanization. Beyond its natural value, the park preserves a layered cultural landscape shaped by Neolithic and Slavic settlement, by centuries of vineyards and orchards, and later by 19th- and 20th-century villas and family housing. Its valleys such as Bohnické údolí, Čimické údolí, and Drahanské údolí form a transitional zone between dense housing estates and the open countryside, making it both a recreational escape and an ecologically sensitive buffer on Prague's northern edge.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
