Sandfluren bei Volkach, Schwarzach am Main und Sommerach is a designated nature reserve in the Main valley of Lower Franconia, Bavaria, in southern Germany. Situated south of the town of Volkach in the Landkreis Kitzingen, the protected area preserves an unusual inland system of sand dunes and nutrient-poor sandy grasslands in a region otherwise dominated by agriculture, vineyards, and river landscapes. The reserve was established in 1989 and covers roughly 105 hectares of open sand habitats interspersed with woodland edges, meadows, orchards, and wetland elements. It forms part of the European Natura 2000 network, both as a component of the Main valley habitat area and as a refuge within the Südliches Steigerwaldvorland bird protection zone. The site is notable for preserving interior sand dunes and ancient drift sand surfaces that have been formally recognized as a Geotop by the Bavarian Environment Agency. Beyond its geological value, the reserve is recognized for the rare flora and specialized fauna that depend on these dry, sandy conditions, including wild bees, parasitic wasps, tiger beetles, wasp spiders, blue-winged grasshoppers, and sand lizards.
